I was recently told that the reason I didn’t get the job was because “I was too expensive..”
Of course, companies have to manage their costs, yet, it is also an excellent opportunity to procure, I hate to say it ‘cut-price’ talent. If the candidate is otherwise perfect fit, yet the only barrier is cost, then say so and ask to open negotiations.
If the above had actually happened, I would have accepted a reasonable pay reduction, as I recognised that the opportunity presented by the role far outweighed the monetary value.
